Preemptive Strikes

Hello, this is Blase Bonpane with a comment.

Shoot first, ask questions later. That's the new doctrine of preemption coming from Mr.Bush by way of  his  War Department handlers.

Preemption is the ultimate unilateral action. George Bush alone reserves the right to determine what constitutes a threat to US security and to act even if that threat is not judged to be imminent.

All of the pain imposed on Iraq simply because they refuse to privatize their oil industry production.

How quickly the world's leaders caught on to the new Bush Doctrine.

Only days after the doctrine of preemption was announced we heard Mr. Sharon talking about preemptive strikes against Palestine.

India can now use a preemptive nuclear strike to stop any threats from Pakistan. China can now use preemption to justify and attack on Taiwan.

But wait, preemption is not a new policy at all…it is a very old and a very tired policy. Was not Grenada was on the verge of invading the United States in 1983?  But Ronald Reagan  preempted that by sending in the 82nd airborne and bombing their mental hospital.

Was not Nicaragua on the verge of invading the United States in the 1980's when the same preemptor saved us by illegally forming a mercenary army to devastate that country?

Did not Mr. Nixon saved us from the possibility of democracy in Chile in 1973 by preempting Salvador Allende and imposing the Nazi Dictator Augusto Pinochet?

How, then, can we preempt war insanity and addiction? We must not cooperate with these endless provocations and join the rest of the world in the quest for justice and peace.

We must join forces with voices of reason. Our country is incapable of delivering health care or  education on a par with France or Italy as our taxes are being wasted on  run away militarism. We have yet to see Mr. Bush make his first step to assist the domestic needs of the people of the United States. His every step so far has simply increased our endangerment.

The most serious perilous act of preemptive policy is the executive's determination to make first strike nuclear attacks against other nations whether they have nuclear weapons or not. Unbelievably Mr. Bush has broken away from the 1972 Antiballistic Missile Treaty.

Alright, what is to be done? Simply call 202/224-3121 and ask for your representative's office. Tell your representative to support the law suit of Representative Dennis Kucinich and 30 other members of the House of Representatives who are suing the president seeking a temporary restraining order to stop the pullout of the United States from the 1972 Antiballistic Missile Treaty.

Just make that call. I think we can preempt Mr. Bush on this one.
